Transforming for the Worst

Posted July 11, 2011

Melding little substance with incoherent plotting, Michael Bay multiplies soullessness with stupidity to form a blockbuster catastrophe in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Mastering visual effects at the expense of emotional depth, TF3 captures the graphic nuances of its mechanical toys, but never endows them with any sense of humanity beyond the ability to mercilessly smash heads. This lack of character applies to the story's humans, who screech inane dialogue and pointlessly lollygag during the interminable action sequences. In addition, the baffling plot fails to coherently connect any of these nauseating battles, whose endless gunfights torture their audience. These brainless machines have done more than destroy skyscrapers: they have singlehandedly marked the end of heartfelt Hollywood filmmaking and buried it in nothing more than the terror of CGI. 0.5 out of 4 stars

Note: I heavily agree with Elizabeth Weitzman of the New York Daily News, who states: "As for Huntington-Whitely [the protagonist's girlfriend], she makes an excellent case for the return of Megan Fox for the next installment." I could not fit this idea into my review.
