Superhero-Film Cliches Repeated Again and Again

Posted Nov 30, 2010

Despite its flashes of humorous whimsy, and a superb voicing by Will Ferrell, Megamind is a trite animation about an evil villain who turns out to have a soft heart, the exact same theme as another much better film released earlier this year, Despicable Me. The development of its characters relies upon abrupt changes of personality and sudden epiphanic moments within them. Rather than build key plot events around its main character's strengths, they revolve around one device so much that one of the climax's meant-to-be surprises fails. These two floundering vital elements of plot, combined with an overfamiliar Hollywood theme and endless cliches, are guarenteed to create complete dullness and predictability for nearly every single scene. 1.5 stars

Not brutal by Kenny's standards. 1.5 stars means its still watchable. Its not "Fly Me to the Moon" level.

I liked the effects, but the storyline was awful.
